Renowned exponent of Hindustani Classical music

Ustad Faiyaz Ahmed Khan, a renowned exponent of Hindustani Classical music, hails from a family of musicians from Dharwar in Karnataka. His lineage is from the sixth generation of musicians who were originally from Gwalior, one of India’s premier traditional centres of Hindustani music and he belongs to Kirana Gharana.

Introduced to music training during childhood by his illustrious father Ustad Abdul Khader Khan, At the age of 6, he started Tabla practice under the guidance of PtBasavaraj Bendigeri and continued his training under Ustad Nizamuddin Khan, Ustad Mamulal Sangoankar and Pandit Santha Prasad. Later, he started his professional performance at the age of 13 as a Tabla player for senior vocalists and instrumentalists such as Ustad Bale Khan, Pandit Basavaraj Rajguru, and Pandit Rasiklal Andhariya. His Hindustani vocal guru is Pandit Ranganath Joshi later he had his training in vocal music under the likes of the celebrated Ustad Abdul Latheef Khan, Ustad Liyaqat Ali Khan, and Ustad Altaf Hussain Khan. After the demise of his father became a disciple of Sarangi maestroPandit Ram Narayan

 

Ustad Faiyaz Khan Life had been an exploration and pilgrimage for in search of the treasures of Indian Classical Music.

Today, the virtuoso is regarded a musical genius who is equally adept at Hindustani vocal, Sarangi and Tabla. He is now based in Bangalore and performs in India and abroad in the true traditions of the pure streams of Indian Classical music. He is a brilliant teacher of music. The loved and admired Guru has many disciples for Hindustani vocal Sarangi and Tabla, imbibing the great heritage of Music India. When he moved to Bangalore in 1995 and apart from his Indian Classical Concerts, he also established himself as an accomplished contributor in the South Indian Film Industry. He has worked with famous music directors like A. R. RahmanRajan–Nagendra, Vijay Bhasakar, Hamsalekha, M.M Keeravani, Raman Goukula and others.

Ustad Faiyaz Khan’s repertoire is a vast and rich one.  He is a fine exponent of not only Hindustani Classical music, but also other streams such as folk music, ghazals and other lighter musical versions too.
